Silk City or City of Thousand temples



Kancheepuram known as "The City of Thousand Temples" and also as "Silk City".
This city beholds in herself few interesting facts which makes her complete unique from others holy cities in India. Apart from the worldwide known for making of hand woven silk fabrics, this city is considered to be one of the seven holiest cities as per hindu religion and is one of the three Shakti Peethas, the other two being Madurai and Kasi.

Prominent hindu temples are situated here with their own shrines like Varadharaja Perumal Temple of Vishnu and the Ekambaranatha Temple which is the "earth abode" of Shiva, Kamakshi Amman Temple, Kumara Kottam, Kachapeshwarar Temple, and the Kailasanathar Temple.

Communal harmony is also seen in this city, where Nawab Sathathullah Khan Mosque and Vaikunda Perumal Temple are situated very close and both the mosque and the temple share the same tank.
